We are excited to offer the beautiful Quinta Pentatonic Flute. This is often the "recorder" or flute recommended for First Graders in Waldorf Schools. It was specially developed for use by young children 4-6 years old. It possesses a tone that sounds more like a voice than an instrument. The fingers gently touch the specially formed finger holds, which allow half steps to be achieved naturally by half-covering the holes. Treat your flute gently and oil it frequently. This is made of one piece of wood.  Made in Sweden.

Product Specs (for music experts):  Quinta Pentatonic Flute - A= 432 Hz.  Pear wood, A= 432 Hz, 6 finger holes, range: d'-e'-g'-a'-b'-d'-e', Accessories: wooden cleaning swab, cotton flute bag.  The Quinta Pentatonic Flute is a newly developed pentatonic flute made of pear wood without a tone block. It has a slightly stronger tone than those with a tone block and a very light articulation.  The interval and pentatonic flutes were specially developed for use by children, particularly in groups.

The newly developed Quinta-Flute is light blowing, with very easy articulation and a clear transparent tone. With the newly designed labium and windway, no separate toneblock is needed.

All the Choroi flutes are characterized by a warm, light, flexible tone. Compared with traditional instruments, the Choroi flutes possess a tone that sounds more like a voice than an instrument.

This unique tone quality leads to a corresponding style of play. A free outbreathing, rather than an active blowing, forms the foundation for the tone. The mouth and lip positions also contribute to the tone formation. The fingers gently touch the specially formed finger holes, which allow half-steps to be achieved naturally by half-covering the holes.

All flutes are treated exclusively with linseed oil.

When deciding whether to buy the Pentatonic Flute with or without the tone block, the following information may be helpful. There is just a slight sound difference between the two, not something most children would notice. If you select the one with the tone block, the tone block can break if/when the flute is dropped. Also, it is recommended the tone block be removed and oiled or replaced each year, so that is added "maintenance". If you want to keep life simple, you may want to select the flute without the tone block. Or, if your child is learning the flute in school, ask the music or class teacher which one they recommend.

NOTE ABOUT RETURNS: Because this is an item that goes in a person's mouth, for hygiene reasons, we cannot accept returns on it. If you have questions regarding the item please contact us either prior to ordering or immediately after you receive the flute.
